Dr. Taddese Zerfu, a Research Fellow at IFPRI, recently spoke with Ethiopia’s Sheger FM 102.1 to highlight the critical importance of healthy diets in advancing public health and development. Drawing from the newly released 2025 UN report, The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI), Dr. Taddese discussed Ethiopia’s persistent nutrition challenges—including limited access to diverse foods and nutrient adequet diets, rising healthy food prices due to inflation, and conflicts and internal displacment causing food insecurity and malnutrition—and emphasized the need for practical, multi-sectoral strategies to improve nutrition outcomes.
