The Ethiopia Strategy Support Program (ESSP) in collaboration with the National Information Platforms for Nutrition (NIPN) and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) conducted a training on; Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) for researchers of EPHI and other local institutes from October 28 - November 1, 2019.
The one week training provided tools to familiarize trainees with DHS data and an understanding of DHS sampling procedures. The Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Program is responsible for collecting and disseminating accurate, nationally representative data on health and population in developing countries. Since 1984, the DHS programme has been working with developing countries around the world to collect data about significant health issues, including fertility, the use of contraception, the incidence of malaria and HIV, and maternal mortality. It has also worked in concert with international NGOs such as USAID, UNICEF and the World Health Organisation. These surveys enable policymakers to make considered decisions in designing national health programmes.
