The Ethiopia Strategy Support Program (ESSP) of IFPRI and the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) organized three short term trainings on; Introduction to STATA (with applications to the Dairy sector), Market Policy and Value Chain Analysis (with a focus on Agriculture and Livestock) and Efficiency and Productivity Analysis (with applications to the livestock sector), from June 26-28, 2019 for a total of 92 members of the Ethiopian Economics Association. The three days STATA training, introduced participants to STATA (Software for Statistics and Data Science) and helped them understand the basics of obtaining and manipulating data. The course took the participants in an active process of learning to explore, visualize, model and make inferences using the software.
The two days training on Market Policy and Value Chain Analysis provided an accessible introduction to market policies, with a focus on agriculture and livestock while aiming at improving understanding of agricultural and livestock market development, price stabilization theories and applications, and the functioning of agricultural and livestock value chains. For each theme, the participants were given an overview of the theory/conceptual frameworks as well as some overview of relevant studies in that area in Ethiopia. The Efficiency and Productivity Analysis course provided an accessible introduction to some important concepts such as production economics, production technology, productivity and efficiency.
