A comprehensive survey is being conducted now until January 2015 to measure the impact of high transportation costs on agricultural technology adoption, productivity, commercial surplus, off-farm markets and welfare. 850 households are being interviewed along a steep transport gradient in a remote area of Ethiopia (west of Lake Tana). The analysis will enable us to estimate the returns to investing in rural roads in Ethiopia. More later.
